Volunteering Friends is a National Lottery Community Funded project.  Through the engagement of volunteers, we support older people (50+) living in Blaenau Gwent who are experiencing feelings of social isolation and loneliness.

Volunteers provide companionship, support confidence building and encourage involvement in the local community. Participants are able to access one or more services, depending on their individual needs.

We work with other local agencies for referrals to specialist services such as a volunteer community car scheme, well-being and health support groups, skills training sessions.

  • One-to-one befriending – delivered in the person’s home or over the telephone
  • Community buddying – providing support to engage in community activities through guidance around venue locations, transport options and initial accompaniment to activities where required
  • The establishment of volunteer-led group activities in community settings or via telephone networks, identified through individual needs, interests, and gaps in existing services.
