Good Neighbour (Forth Valley)
A flexible volunteering role supporting people in Forth Valley with small, meaningful tasks that strengthen community and wellbeing.
For individuals 18+ in Newcastle and surrounding areas
Good Neighbours connects volunteers with people who may be isolated, older, or in need of extra support, offering simple acts of help such as shopping, companionship, or a short walk. These small, consistent interactions help individuals feel safer, more connected, and better supported within their communities.
Volunteers are fully supported through recruitment, training and ongoing guidance, with the flexibility to choose tasks that suit their time, interests and availability. Using an easy-to-access app or online portal, they can pick up opportunities that fit around their lives, making volunteering accessible and manageable.
Through their involvement, volunteers build confidence, develop new skills and gain a strong sense of purpose, while contributing valuable insight back to project staff. This helps shape responsive, community-led support that meets real local needs and strengthens connections across the area.

- Great people skills, able to be a friendly face, and build rapport with others
- Well organised, flexible, able to follow instructions and use own initiative
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Friendly, caring, approachable, compassionate, inclusive of others
- Able to complete volunteer recruitment and training process
- This role requires a PVG (criminal record check). There is no cost, and support is available to complete the process. Having a criminal conviction is not necessarily a barrier to becoming a volunteer
We are passionate about ensuring that each volunteer has a rich and rewarding volunteering experience! As a Good Neighbour, we will provide you with a single point of contact, a member of our staff team, who will check in with you regularly and be on hand to offer help, encouragement and support throughout your volunteering journey. We will also provide all relevant induction and ongoing training, and access to any resources or guidance that will support you to achieve success.
We will offer flexibility around your volunteering role, recognising the need for holidays, time away, or other personal commitments. We will also provide you with the chance to meet other volunteers, take part in social events, and the opportunity to share your story!
We will re-imburse you with any pre-agreed travel and out-of-pocket expenses.
Finally, as a volunteer, you can always expect to be treated with kindness, compassion, respect, with thanks, and so much more.
