Mentoring

Mentoring is an important part in the approach we take to volunteering. Mentoring is similar to having a friendly guide who wants you to succeed, no matter who you are.

At Volunteering Matters our approach emphasises equality, inclusivity, and mutual respect. Mentoring focuses on creating a transformative relationship that fosters the growth and development of both the mentor and the mentee.

The mentor, through their guidance and support, not only imparts knowledge and skills but also cultivates an environment of empathy and understanding, acknowledging the unique experiences and perspectives of the mentee.

The mentee is encouraged to express their authentic self, share their aspirations, and actively participate in the learning process, contributing their insights and ideas.

In this reciprocal exchange, both the mentor and the mentee undergo personal and professional growth, broadening their understanding of diverse perspectives, building empathy, and nurturing a culture of inclusivity.

“The experience is a wonderful opportunity to gain practical  experience in supporting people. The support I got as a volunteer empowered me and maximized the team potential in providing high quality service.”
