Brighton

Our work in Brighton is all about supporting people aged 50 and over to live healthier, more connected lives.

Brighton is a city full of energy, diversity and heart. At Volunteering Matters, we believe that volunteering should reflect and respond to the unique character of the places we are part of thanks to the support of players of People’s Postcode Lottery, and the strength of local partnerships and volunteers, we’re proud to be running impactful place-based projects right here in Brighton.

Our work in Brighton is all about supporting people aged 50 and over to live healthier, more connected lives. Whether it’s building social networks, supporting wellbeing, or helping people to access vital services, our projects aim to reduce loneliness and create lasting change, shaped by the community, for the community.

We’re committed to the power of volunteering and the difference it makes when it’s rooted in local knowledge and experience. In Brighton, that commitment comes to life through two projects we’re excited to share.

Lifelines

Lifelines is a long-running, vibrant project that’s been part of Brighton & Hove since 2007. It’s all about connecting people aged 50+ through group activities and one-to-one services designed to boost health, wellbeing and social connection.

From art classes to quizzes, Pilates to phone chats, our Lifelines volunteers make it happen – running sessions in community venues, housing schemes and online spaces across the city.

Whether it’s getting to the GP, the dentist, or a wellbeing group, Healthlink volunteers offer more than just company.

They help people prepare, travel together, and provide reassurance before, during and after appointments. There’s also digital support to help people access video consultations and online health services.
