Impact Report 2024
Through the power of volunteering, we’re transforming communities across the UK. In 2024, our volunteers tackled social isolation, improved mental and physical health, and empowered individuals to lead change. Last year, we strengthened partnerships, championed inclusion, and ensured more people had the opportunity to thrive.
The past year has been one of transformation and resilience at Volunteering Matters. With 10,690 volunteers stepping up to support their communities, the impact of volunteering has never been clearer.
What we achieved together
- 4,152 volunteers helped protect Scotland’s biodiversity through Action Earth.
- 3,545+ volunteers led change in their communities through the Retired and Senior Volunteers Programme.
- 568 young people took action to drive social change.
- 286 volunteers supported 250 care-experienced young people in 15 towns and cities.
- 95% of our volunteers believe they are making a positive difference.

Our focus
Each of our projects focuses on at least one of the following key themes:
- Ensuring young people can lead change
- Reducing social isolation and loneliness
- Improving physical and mental health
- Building skills, confidence and opportunity

Looking ahead
Despite the challenges of the past year, from unrest in some communities to funding pressures for charities, we have strengthened our foundations and built a more resilient future. Together with our Trustees, our executive leadership team have been working to streamline operations and enhance our financial stability, allowing us to expand our reach and impact.
Looking ahead, our five-year strategy launching in 2025 will focus on growing partnerships, diversifying income, and strengthening community fundraising. Together, we are redefining the future of volunteering in the UK.
