Brighter Futures

  • Supporting secondary school pupils in Edinburgh through supported volunteering opportunities, and mentoring relationships
  • Working closely with young people who have barriers or life challenges, preventing them from achieving their full potential

Our innovative supported volunteering and mentoring programmes are currently delivered in partnership with one secondary school in Edinburgh – St Thomas of Aquins R.C High School.

The programme supports targeted young people in S2 – S4 by facilitating access to volunteering experiences with a local charity partner. We also engage pupils with empowering and positive mentoring relationships, and tailored 1:1 support provided by our staff team.

We help young people broaden their horizons, build their confidence, enhance their aspirations, gain new skills and experiences, promote a sense of place, belonging and citizenship. Our programmes also support each school with their culture and ethos of volunteering.

Huge shoutout to one of the young people in our Brighter Futures programme, who has been volunteering at the Move On Wood Recycling Centre in Granton, Edinburgh! Together with support from Jane in our team, they’ve been working hard to prepare recycled lumber for the charity’s furniture shop. Through this hands-on experience, they’re gaining valuable skills and making a positive impact!

Providing families essentials

Brighter Futures supports young people through volunteering placements that help support others in the community. One of our young people volunteers at Greenhouse Pantry where the volunteers help families to receive essential food and household items at a low cost.

Another volunteers The Meadows Community Garden where they help to preserve and uphold a community green space. These placements not only help the community but they also show the volunteers that they are capable of making an impact and gives them the confidence to make change.
