Good Neighbours (Newcastle)
Helping people across Newcastle with practical tasks and friendly support.
The Good Neighbours Newcastle project recruits, trains and supports volunteers, who provide “a little bit of help” to people who may be socially isolated, have a physical or mental health condition or disability, or who don’t have many people around them.
Delivered by Volunteering Matters in partnership with Newcastle City Council, Search Newcastle and St Martin’s Centre, the project supports adults who need extra help at home, while giving volunteers the opportunity to strengthen and make a big difference in their community.
We all would all live in a place that has sense of community, and where people have positive health and wellbeing, and look out for one another.
In 2025, Volunteering Matters partnered with Newcastle City Council to create Good Neighbours Newcastle. The aim is to help people remain independent, connected and supported in their own homes through practical help and friendly social support from trained local volunteers.
The service is available to adults aged 18 and over who live in Newcastle.
You may benefit if you:
- Feel socially isolated
- Have limited support around you
- Find certain tasks difficult due to age, disability or health
- Need short term help to stay independent at home
There is no cost to receive support. The project is funded by Newcastle City Council.
