RSVP (Wales)

• Working with volunteers aged 50+
• Delivering a wide range of activities to benefit the local communities
• Activities are based on volunteers’ skills and interests, or local needs

RSVP in Wales has a long history of volunteer-led activities for the benefit of the community, providing volunteering opportunities and social opportunities for people over 50yrs in various locations throughout the region.

Knitting and crafting groups: Knitting groups aim to reduce social isolation while at the same time making a variety of knitted items for distribution to other community organisations. We have RSVP knitting/crafting groups in:

  • Anglesey / Ynys Mon – a long established group that welcomes new members.
  • Gwynedd – members come together to knit items for people in their local area.
  • Pembrokeshire – several groups meet across the county with opportunities to make friends, whilst knitting and chatting.
  • Rhondda Cynon Taf – several groups are meeting regularly and welcome new members.
  • Conwy – members come together

WWII reminiscence and education: Our volunteers run intergenerational sessions in schools to discover what it was like living during the war years. Pupils have the chance to handle artefacts and try on clothing and uniforms from the time – activities are delivered in Bridgend and surrounding area.

Community Coffee Mornings/Afternoons: These groups offer a chance for communities to come together for a chat over a cup of tea and a cake or biscuit. We have various coffee mornings or afternoons (some weekly, some monthly) in:

  • Pembrokeshire
  • Rhondda Cynon Taf

Fitness and Wellbeing: We have weekly volunteer-led Tai Chi classes for fitness and wellbeing for people 50yrs+in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Participants come together to share the benefits of calming and mindful movements under expert tuition.

RSVP projects are led by volunteer Organisers. Volunteers are generally aged 50yrs+ or retired. In general projects undertaken by RSVP groups are self-funded through local fundraising and grants. Volunteering Matters provides insurance for RSVP groups andprovides bespoke support with running the projects and activities, when required.
