Newport Skill Share

Everyone has a skill that others would love to learn, and we are looking for people throughout Newport who are up for sharing theirs.

The Newport Skill Share Project is an exciting project that operates across Newport and is led by the needs, wants and interests of the local communities. It brings together younger people and older people to build skills, make meaningful connections across generations and reduce feelings of isolation.

Our project is about encouraging and supporting people in Newport to share their skills with others in their communities. The is in the form of workshops, on a one-to-one basis or group sessions! These workshops will enable people to gain skills and knowledge of something new, while meeting new people in their community and building lifelong relationships!

These could be life skills for example that can help obtain employment and encourage paid work – the creation of CV’s, interview skills, basic IT and First Aid.

Volunteers share their skills in a one-off session or several sessions, with the time needed being set by them. The team takes the individual through the volunteer process and then works with them to organise the event.

We cover travel expenses, purchase any basic supplies needed and support them to help others learn something new.

Here are a few ideas of the sessions we deliver:

  • Teaching English to beginners
  • Confidence building
  • Financial management
  • CV writing skills
  • Beauty – haircare/make up/nails
  • Textiles/art/craft/sewing
  • Basic bicycle maintenance
  • Photography
