Our innovative supported volunteering and mentoring programmes are currently delivered in partnership with one secondary school in Edinburgh – St Thomas of Aquins R.C High School.
The programme supports targeted young people in S2 – S4 by facilitating access to volunteering experiences with a local charity partner. We also engage pupils with empowering and positive mentoring relationships, and tailored 1:1 support provided by our staff team.
We help young people broaden their horizons, build their confidence, enhance their aspirations, gain new skills and experiences, promote a sense of place, belonging and citizenship. Our programmes also support each school with their culture and ethos of volunteering.
Conversing with me has helped my matched mentee to develop some key social skills. Most importantly the ability to talk about their interests to people they’re meeting for the first time – Ethan, Brighter Futures Mentor

Hands on experience
Huge shoutout to one of the young people in our Brighter Futures programme, who has been volunteering at the Move On Wood Recycling Centre in Granton, Edinburgh! Together with support from Jane in our team, they’ve been working hard to prepare recycled lumber for the charity’s furniture shop. Through this hands-on experience, they’re gaining valuable skills and making a positive impact!
