As part of our Mentoring and Supported Volunteering (MSV) programme, we’re looking for Volunteer Mentors to build trusted, respectful relationships and help individuals move forward in life. You’ll be matched with someone in Dundee who is currently facing challenges such as unemployment, low confidence or lack of direction.
Your role involves meeting regularly, typically once a week in the local community, to set goals and work together on steps to achieve them. You may support your mentee in a range of ways, such as building confidence, improving English, developing soft skills, writing a CV, searching for jobs or exploring training and qualifications.
What you do together will depend on the individual, but we’ll support you every step of the way with training, resources and guidance. We match mentors and mentees based on shared interests, as well as your experience and preferences.
Some of the people we support have specific career aspirations, and hearing from someone with lived experience in that field can be hugely valuable. If your career background could help someone take their next step, we’d love to hear about it in your application.

- Provide 1:1 social, emotional and practical support to an individual facing barriers in gaining employment or reaching other positive destinations that will eventually contribute to their work experience

- Support your mentee with their goals, providing help, guidance and encouragement
- Be able to actively listen and support your mentee

- Activities can vary depending on the individual mentoring relationship, however full support and training will be provided throughout your mentoring journey
- Patient
- Positive
- Non-judgmental
- Personable – able to relate to others experiences and circumstances
- Reliable and organised
- Empathic
As a volunteer, you will receive:
- Consistent help and support throughout your volunteering experience
- All induction and ongoing training
