Erasmus+ Volunteering projects allow young people aged 17-30 to take part in unpaid and Full-Time Volunteering activities for up to 12 months in another country within or outside the European Union.
‘I have been a Full-Time Volunteer with Volunteering Matters in Ipswich for eight months, and I’ve had the opportunity to work on different projects. I have been working with people with disabilities, mental health problems, children and women.
It’s been a great journey; I have been able to grow in my professional development, have gained experience, and have improve my language and social skills.
I’ve learned to be aware that outside of my own world and problems; and that there are far more issues that need to be treated. I used to think that one person couldn’t change the world, but I changed my mind when I figured out that even if you make a small impact in one person that is a huge change.
This opportunity has helped me to learn how to deal with problems, how to treat people and how to raise awareness of important issues. I have become more independent, sensible and I’ve gained confidence. It is true that you receive more than you give with volunteering!’
Maria’s placement in the UK was made possible through Erasmus+ Volunteering Projects funding, often referred to as EVS (European Voluntary Service).
