Volunteering Matters is delighted to announce the appointment of Peta Foxall CBE as its new Chair, taking over from Anne Heal who has led the charity since 2015. Peta Foxall will assume her new role from 11 October 2024.
Peta brings a deep commitment to public service, backed by extensive leadership experience in the NHS, higher education, and charitable sectors. She has a proven track record of guiding organisations through complex change, with a particular focus on the wellbeing of people and on governance at Board level.
Peta is well known for her voluntary leadership; she is currently Senior Independent Trustee on the Board of the NHS Confederation and served as Chair of The Wildlife Trusts from 2017 to 2022. A passionate advocate of youth social action, she actively supports the #iwill Movement, which encourages young people to take on leadership roles and drive positive change in their communities. Peta has always been a grass-roots volunteer wherever she has lived, epitomising the contributions made by volunteers at Volunteering Matters.
Peta’s experience will be invaluable to us as we continue our work to strengthen our financial security, allowing us to maintain and grow our vital programmes. By adapting to the current economic landscape and exploring new opportunities for collaboration and support, we aim to safeguard our ability to make a lasting impact through volunteering across the UK.
On her new appointment, Peta Foxall CBE said:
“I feel honoured to be joining Volunteering Matters as Chair of the Board of Trustees. I know that through social action and volunteering, we can help to tackle the complex issues that our communities face across the UK, creating stronger and more resilient places to live, work and thrive. Together, we really can build a brighter future for all.”
Amanda Naylor OBE, CEO at Volunteering Matters, said:
“I am really excited to welcome Dr Peta Foxall and work alongside her at what continues to be an exciting but challenging time in the voluntary sector. Peta’s track record as an experienced Chair and commitment to developing strong governance and thriving organisations is exactly what Volunteering Matters requires as we enter a period of developing our next five-year strategy.
“We want to thank Anne Heal for the service and expert leadership that she has provided over the past 9 years. Anne has provided consistency at times of challenge and change through seeing the organisation merge with ProjectScotland and adapt through COVID-19. Under Anne’s leadership, we have expanded our reach and impact, helping to strengthen communities through the power of volunteering.”
