Older people in Stirling and Clackmannanshire knit items for local charities and other good causes.

Knitted and crocheted items are distributed to local hospitals, care homes, children’s organisations, animal rescue charities and some are sent abroad to Africa or Eastern Europe.

Regular meetings are held to give volunteers the opportunity to socialise with other knitters, compare knitting projects and have a tea or coffee. The opportunity for social interaction has an overall positive effect for older people’s health and well-being.

If you can knit or crochet the group would be delighted to welcome you.

As a volunteer, you will receive:

  • The opportunity to use your knitting skills for a worthwhile cause
  • The opportunity to socialise and have a “blether” with other knitters at our regular coffee mornings
  • Free wool and patterns mostly paid for by income from knitting Smoothie hats
  • Knitting advice and suggestions.
