The Health Champions project aimed to empower communities across Warwickshire to improve health and wellbeing while tackling health inequalities. Funded by Warwickshire County Council, the initiative trained and supported volunteers to use their lived experience and community influence to inspire healthier lifestyles among their friends, families, and neighbours.
This project not only achieved its goals but evolved to build confidence and foster cultural shifts in how communities approach health and wellbeing.
A case study: Nahed Alhamwi
“When I learned about the Health Champions project, I was eager to join. The training was thorough and accessible, even for someone whose first language isn’t English. One of the most rewarding outcomes was establishing a weekly meeting for women in my community. The feedback was incredible. When mothers achieve physical and mental well-being, it benefits their children, their families, and the entire community. This project gave me purpose and showed how individual efforts can create widespread impact.”
The Health Champions project is a testament to the transformative power of collaboration, building healthier and more connected communities. While the project has concluded, its impact and the stories of its volunteers, like Nahed, continue to inspire.
