The Parental Employability Support Programme (PES) is designed to support parents facing multiple barriers in their journey towards employment. Funded by Edinburgh Council and aligned with the “No One Left Behind” framework, PESP focuses on tackling poverty and inequality, particularly for families from ethnically diverse backgrounds.
The programme offers personalised, holistic support, helping parents overcome challenges in achieving employment-related goals. By partnering with other local organisations, PES provides a network of practical, financial, and emotional resources to address each family’s unique needs.
Our free programmes benefit parents who identify within at least one of the 6 priority groups:
- Lone Parents
- Parents with a disability, or who have a child with a disability
- Parents from an ethnic minority background
- Families with 3 children or more
- Families with a child under the age of 1
- Parents aged 25 and under
Parents are supported with vocational activities including support with job searching, job applications, Higher Education applications, developing CV’s, mock interviews, developing “soft skills”, building confidence, plus so much more.
We also provide work-ready support, helping parents to access work placements, supported volunteering experiences, or the opportunity for parents to benefit from mentoring.
Our tailored approach starts with a detailed assessment of each parent’s situation, followed by the creation of a personalised action plan. This plan may include signposting to other services, accessing technology or financial resources, and emotional support to build confidence.
Additionally, we assist with employability skills such as CV writing, job applications, and interview preparation. Once employment is secured, we continue to provide in-work support to ensure long-term success.
By empowering parents with the tools and confidence to enter or return to the workforce, PES is making a tangible difference in combating inequality and promoting social mobility in Edinburgh’s communities.

Community Lunch Club
The programme also offers a supportive community through initiatives like the Community Lunch Club, where participants can share a meal, connect with others, and attend informal employability workshops. This is part funded by Building Bridges and hosted at Shinwari who have kindly provided a full Lunch Club meal for free.
