For more than 30 years our Full-Time Volunteers have been supporting people of all ages and backgrounds with reduced mobility and/or disabilities to live a fulfilling life and participate in their community. The roles they play depend entirely on the organisation or beneficiary. Our full time volunteers can provide live in home care and support or spend part of their time befriending people in a care home and the other part supporting people with learning difficulties.

With the offer of flexible support for 35 hours per week, full time volunteers; who are aged 18-35 can be a valuable asset to an individual or organisation.

Supporting individuals:

“I feel privileged to have volunteers and recommend Volunteering Matters Choices to anyone with cerebral palsy who wants to live an independent life.” Chris.H, Choices Beneficiary

Choices is our flexible and reliable service for individuals who need extra live in support, allowing them to live independently. If you have a personal budget, a direct payment or you wish to pay privately for extra support, then you may be interested in involving our Full-Time Volunteers as part of your care package.

A Full-Time Volunteer can support your choice to live independently through:

  • Live-in support and companionship
  • Personal support
  • Practical tasks, e.g. shopping, cooking, cleaning and laundry
  • Supporting you to access social and leisure activities
  • Enabling independent living

“It’s like having friends who just happen to be looking after you. They give me more flexibility and freedom which is what you need as a student” Jenny Wheeler, MSc Chemistry student, Student Choices user and Disabled Students Officer

We also have a Student Choices programme specifically for people studying at University who may need extra support to get to lectures, get across campus, or attend social events. Your volunteer is with you every step of the way to help you get the most out of your University experience. With the added bonus of being younger and choosing to be there compared to regular carers, we find that out full-time volunteers strike up a deep bond and friendship with the person they’re supporting.

Supporting organisations:

“Volunteering Matters’ volunteers are part of the team. They mix very well with our service users; they spend a lot of time together which allows for trust and companionship – it’s a perfect relationship.” John Morton, Stratford and District Mencap

Volunteering Matters have been working in partnership with voluntary organisations and local authorities for over 50 years, providing Full Time Volunteers to enable them to offer an enhanced service.

Full-Time Volunteers can carry out a wide range of activities including:

  • Befriending and mentoring
  • Helping with personal care
  • Helping clients develop their independent living skills
  • Supporting project staff

Volunteer support is flexible and responsive to the needs of your organisation and can provide an added benefit or dimension to the professional support you offer or receive. We will work with you to develop a rewarding and beneficial volunteer placement.
