RESPECT Project – sourcing & donating educational packs to support families’ home-learning.

One of the many things we’re doing in response to COVID is RESPECT. Based in Suffolk, our volunteers are creating activity packs for children. These are helping families with home-schooling, especially those who may not have English as their first language.

The packs, and online resources, are produced bilingually, covering topics from Science, emotional wellbeing, Art, imagination, to Maths and English. They also contain fun and creative learning tools for children helping their language skills, and assimilation.

At the heart of this project is community. We’ve received support from people all over Ipswich. Most importantly, our amazing local volunteers have been working tirelessly to deliver packs to 100s of children and families in five languages, including Polish, Spanish and Romanian.

Many of the crafts materials, books and games have been donated by local institutions. We have had generous contributions from The Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich Museum, Pacitti Company, Suffolk Libraries… and many more! We’ve also received support from local Ipswich Borough Council, including Borough Councillor, Tracy Grant, who has helped with the distribution of packs to local schools. She will also be appearing in edition 4, which will cover being an active citizen.

We’ve already seen an overwhelming response to the scheme. The feedback we’ve received has from teachers, families and the children themselves have been heart-warming. A huge thanks to everyone involved, we are committed to keeping up this amazing progress!
