  • Based in Torfaen

Beyond Transitions is a volunteer project based in Torfaen, South Wales, set up to support young disabled people through their transition into adulthood. The project provides opportunities for young people to volunteer in their community.

Trained volunteer mentors provide the young people with the support they need to get the most out of their volunteer experience. This supported volunteering model enables the young person to play a meaningful role in their local community, meet new people, develop their skills and grow in confidence.

We have established a directory of 150 organisations across Torfaen that are able to offer a range of inclusive volunteer opportunities. These organisations include charities, schools and youth groups. Placements range from 3 to 12 month.

A final outcome assessment from the Emotional Intelligence Survey (Nov 2015 – Nov 2016) found that 88% of young disabled people who participated in Beyond Transitions were positive about their goals for the future, compared with 25% at baseline. 87% of volunteers told us that they had learnt new skills, 92% made new friends and 100% said they would recommend Beyond Transitions to others.
