Activ8 is a peer-led project that supports young people to develop skills, confidence and knowledge to help them progress into volunteering, education, employment or training.
The project delivers bespoke and tailored activities to young people aged 18 – 24 years, who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), combining the benefits of peer-support, focused and relevant learning packages and quality opportunities to volunteer within a supportive community environment.
Activ8 builds a package of support for NEET young people, helping them to achieve a longer term outcome, ultimately leading to full-time sustainable employment. Having over 18 years’ experience of youth projects in Gwent, we have built a vast network of partners who can offer a wealth of specialist support including opportunities for young people to develop employability skills and help to job search, opportunities to gain accredited qualifications, and access work related learning and volunteering.
Many young people living in disadvantaged areas feel that they have limited prospects, a problem often exacerbated by a lack of self-belief and aspiration. Peer-based support often helps build self-belief and emotional resilience. Working with peers, who have experienced similar barriers, can often help young people find a stronger voice and make informed decisions, giving them greater control and building their confidence.
The Activ8 programme has been supported by the European Social Fund through Welsh Government Active Inclusion fund, provided through WCVA and the Welsh Assembly Government.
