WCVA Awards

A project promoting sexual health across Gwent has been named as the runner up for the WCVA Third Sector Award for health, social care and wellbeing.

Volunteers Matters’ scheme Sex Matters Too, based in Pontypool, enables young people to deliver peer-led sessions on sexual health, healthy relationships and how to spot the warning signs of sexual exploitation.

The project is active in schools and various community settings in Torfaen, Monmouthshire, Caerphilly and Newport.

As a result of the hard work by Sex Matters Too volunteers’ young people across the region are seeing their health and wellbeing improved through this unique approach to peer-led sexual health education.

Sianne Morgan, the youth development manager for Wales, said: “These awards are a great way to help recognise amazing projects running across Wales for all people.

“Achieving the runner-up award helps to raise awareness of the great volunteering work all the young people on the Sex Matters Too project are doing and we are so proud of them all.”
