Sporting Chance

This week a study from Public Health England found that 1 in 10 men aged 50 have a heart age ten years older than they are. The NHS advice on making your heart more healthy includes getting active and managing your weight, which are two key focuses of Sporting Chance.

Gill works on our Sporting Chance programme in Middlesborough, and chatted to presenter Scott Makin about the project’s aim to create a fun environment for volunteers and beneficiaries to benefit physically and mentally. Sporting Chance means that like-minded, like-abled people who may have become less active can meet together to improve their health.

Volunteer Dave explained his initial reluctance to consider joining Sporting Chance, saying he eventually agreed to attend the project just to watch. But since his first visit he has got fully involved and has lost weight, made new friends, and made a speedy recovery from a knee operation.  You can listen to the full interview on the link below, which begins at 2:21.
