Lisa (middle) at the launch of Sporting Chance Middlesbrough after it's success in Sheffield.

Our Sporting Chance project coordinator Lisa Harman was featured on BBC Radio Sheffield! She chatted to Toby Foster on ‘The Phone in’ on the topic of loneliness, and how Sporting Chance is making a real difference in places like Sheffield.

Run by Volunteering Matters and funded by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, the main focus of the project is reducing isolation and encouraging men over 50 to get physically active. Lisa listed just some of the activities on offer, from boxing classes to games afternoons, and indoor bowling to reminiscing sessions.

‘We eat a lot of biscuits, drink a lot of tea, and have a lot of banter. It’s a little bit like an older lads youth club. They go away smiling with new friends – it’s just the most wonderful thing.’

Sporting Chance is running in Middlesborough, Sheffield, and Stock on Tees. If you’d like to get involved, get in touch via the project page!
