RSVP West is a key region for our RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme) and covers Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Bath & North East Somerset. With over 1000 volunteers involved in various volunteering activities including community care, transport services, care homes, ‘older people’ projects and our schools programme, we are growing rapidly throughout the South West.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) in the South West provides opportunities to older people or those in or approaching retirement to volunteer in a primary or secondary school to support pupils with reading, maths or more specialised subjects, depending on the schools requirements.
Volunteers usually go into school for one session a week. They give one-to-one help to children selected by the teachers to benefit from it. Volunteers liaise closely with teachers to complement the work in the classroom.
