We believe that everyone should be able to play an active part in their community through volunteering. We are seeking volunteer mentors to support young people with complex and life limiting illnesses and conditions, and help them engage in volunteering and work placements.

As a mentor you will receive full support and training from our dedicated project staff to help a young person make the most of the opportunities and communities around them.

Futures Midlands is run in partnership between Volunteering Matters and Acorns Children’s Hospice and supports young people aged 17-19 with complex and life limiting illnesses and conditions.


  • Over 18 years old
  •  Available for one/two day induction training
  • Able to commit to volunteering 1-2 times per week for a few hours over a minimum period of 6 months
  •  Willing to complete a criminal record check (DBS)
  • Resident local to Worcester
  • Able to provide references
  • Interest in working with younger people
  • Able to travel to meet with their mentee based near one of the project locations


As a volunteer you’ll receive:

  • Reasonable out of pocket expenses, including travel costs
  • A paid-for criminal record check (DBS)
  • Training
  • Safeguarding training
  • Ongoing support
  • Regular contact with project manager
