children in need

Following on from the success of the Easter Residential, the North Lanarkshire Befriending Project took more local young people on an action-packed five day trip.

Funded by Children in Need, the trip to Abernethy saw young people accompanied by project staff and volunteer befrienders try all kinds of new activities such as archery, orienteering, gorge walking, kayaking and raft building.

North Lanarkshire Befriending project matches befrienders with young, disadvantaged young people aged 8-18 in the local area. The befrienders meet with their young person once a week or fortnight and develop a trusting relationship with them. They often take them on fun outings and try to give them the opportunities that many other children have.

To celebrate another successful trip, the team decided to put together a montage of photos alongside feedback from the young people who attended. 93% of young people told us they made new friends on the trip and 80% of the children said they felt less lonely. An excellent result all round!
