Active Volunteering Hackney project Give More Get More

We are delighted to be one of five organisations selected to take part in the Give More Get More programme, receiving an award of £99,335 to develop a new volunteering opportunity for people over 50.

Give More Get More forms part of a series of live funds from Nesta and the Office for Civil Society to mobilise volunteers to support public services, demonstrating the reach and impact of volunteers.

Our project will match older volunteers to a disabled young person and their family and draw on the experience, talent, networks and local knowledge of the volunteer to work with the young person to help them plan their next steps after education.

Jemma Mindham, Business Development Manager at Volunteering Matters, said: “Building on our experience of working with young people, disabled people, families and older people, and already offering a full time volunteering opportunity for 18 to 35 years olds, we wanted to create a meaningful full time volunteering opportunity for older people and address some of the challenges faced by young disabled people.”

“We’ll be working with the National Development Team for Inclusion and partners in Essex, Hackney, Suffolk and Coventry to pilot this innovative model and hope to replicate it in other areas, giving all disabled young people access to support in planning for their future and raising their aspirations.”
