Impact of Volunteering Matters ‘LifeLines’ celebrated in Brighton

LifeLines’, a volunteer-led programme which provides social activities for retired people in Brighton and Hove, celebrated its amazing volunteers at an awards reception to mark Volunteers’ Week.

30 Volunteers were treated to a tea at the Old Ship Hotel. Karen Bowlas, the project manager for ‘Lifelines’, said. “By celebrating our volunteers we are able to highlight the impact they have on combatting isolation and enhancing wellbeing in Brighton and Hove.” Volunteers are a range of ages, including some in their 90s, who are still learning Spanish!

Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Alan Robins said, “the hundreds of hours of volunteering LifeLines does each year is invaluable to the social fabric of this city.”

The ‘Lifelines’ projects, part of national charity Volunteering Matters, harnesses the spirit of volunteering by enabling volunteers to reach out and socialise with isolated people in the city. ‘Lifelines’ and all of Volunteering Matters’ work addressing social isolation, is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
