On Friday 1st May a special celebration was held at the North Norfolk Wool Loft Open Day, at Sheringham Community Centre,  to mark the 2000th member joining Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers.

Norfolk Knitters and Stichers is part of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) run by Volunteering Matters, formerly known as Community Service Volunteers (CSV) which implements and supports volunteering projects across the UK for people aged 50+ tackling issues such as social isolation and improved health and wellbeing. All RSVP programmes are designed to give older and retired people volunteering opportunities in a bid to decrease isolation and loneliness.

Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers began in 2008 with just one group meeting bringing together older people who were socially isolated or lonely. It has since grown to a staggering 1,900 members and over 85 knitting groups across the county. Members work tirelessly producing at least 50 sacks a month of knitted and stitched items for local, national and international charities.

Linda Brown, founder and volunteer manager of Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers said:

“We are delighted to welcome and celebrate our 2,000th member! Our group has grown so much over the years and we are all delighted to continue to knit creations to donate to worthwhile causes.”

– The celebrations will take place on Friday 1st May Wool Loft, Sheringham Community Centre, Holway Road, NR26 8NP. The event will also give people the chance to see the fantastic work created by all Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers members. –
