We’re very proud to announce that we’ve made the shortlist for the National Mentoring Awards 2019 in the third sector category with our Grandmentors programme! The awards celebrate mentoring excellence across the UK, and we’re excited that our project has been recognised in this way.

Set up in 2009 and inspired by the accepting and nurturing relationship between a young person and a grandparent, Grandmentors recruits, trains and supports volunteer mentors who use their skills and experience to provide bespoke mentoring for young people leaving care during their transition into adulthood and independence.

At the core of our mentoring program are the young people that we support and the communities in which our projects are based. One of the key innovations in our approach has been to facilitate the young people choosing their own mentors through ‘soft matching events’ for example baking, volunteering at soup kitchens or even goat yoga! Empowering young people to be the creator of their own paths starting with choosing their Grandmentor is one our celebrated impacts shared by our beneficiaries and volunteers.

We will be keeping up to date on social media (@TheNMAwards) and looking forward to finding out the results on Friday 1st March 2019!
