Grandmentors, our award-winning inter-generational project that opens doors to a brighter feature for care-leavers, featured in the Guardian,  both online and in the paper’s print edition.

Milton Keynes based mentee Kai and Grandmentor Honor communicated the unique power of the mentoring relationship in inspiring changes for individuals and communities. Please read the Guardian article on-line here. (Pic. of Honor and Kai, courtesy of Alicia Canter/ The Guardian)

Grandmentors was founded by our President, Lord Freud, 10 years ago, and is now running in eight locations in England, including in Milton Keynes where  Kai and Honor live.

Volunteering Matters works in partnership with local authorities, and this year expects to reach a total of 500 young care leavers and Grandmentors

Kai says “the fact that Honor is giving up her time free of charge is important. “A lot of the time, I find myself reluctant to engage with someone who’s just working with me 9-5. This is a lot more laid back and there’s integrity behind it.” He meets her  weekly for a catch-up, but will also message her in between whenever a problem crops up.
