Our Student Choices programme is specifically for people who are looking for extra support to help them live independently at University.
This unique programme offers a shared experience for you and your volunteer(s) to make the most of University life. This is achieved through flexible support of 35 hours per week for 6 to 12 months to support people with physical or learning disabilities or people with reduced mobility to make the most of their student life. Volunteer support can be paid for through personal health budgets and direct payments.
A full-time volunteer can support your choice to live independently through:
- Live-in support and companionship (there is also the option for volunteers to live elsewhere but accommodation must be provided)
- Practical tasks, e.g. shopping, cooking, cleaning and laundry
- Support for you to access social and leisure activities
- Enabling independent living
Please note that our volunteers are unable to undertake tasks involving personal care and/or manual handling.
