BBC Radio London hosted a positive London youth special yesterday evening to showcase the amazing impact young people are making in their communities across the capital. We were delighted that two of our Positive Futures London volunteers were invited to speak on the show. Our Development Officer Gill was on BBC Radio Tees to talk Sporting Chance! London’s Deputy Mayor for social integration follows up our recent roundtable with this article on the power of volunteering in the New Statesman To mark International Women’s Day 2018, five inspirational young female volunteers from our Women Against Sexual exploitation and violence Speak UP (WASSUP) project featured on BBC Radio Suffolk interviewing Jess Phillips MP for Birmingham Yardley about the issues that matter to them. We were delighted to hear from Evelyn and Caitlin from our North Lanarkshire Befriending Project on the radio as part of Bauer Media’s Take the Time campaign. Our Project Officer Elin Strom was a guest on BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire to promote our new Give More Get More project. Our Sporting Chance project coordinator Lisa Harman was featured on BBC Radio Sheffield! She phoned in to chat to Toby Foster about the topic of loneliness, and told listeners how Sporting Chance is helping to change this for men over 50. Our Policy and Engagement Manager, Mandy James, wrote a blog for the Guardian Voluntary Sector Network exploring the barriers and benefits of volunteering. Moira is a beneficiary with our Help at Hand Befriending Project, and she was interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live speaking about how volunteering has changed her life. With 20,000 volunteers across the UK supporting a further 85,000 beneficiaries we had plenty to talk about from our new Befriending Matters project that has recently launched in London to our Retired Senior Volunteer Programme that has been running for almost 30 years.
